Thermal Burn Injury

Houston Burn Injury Lawyer | Thermal Burns

Thermal burns are the medical term for what we think of as "burn injuries." Thermal burns include sunburn, burns from touching a hot pan, steam burns from microwaves, and burns from fires. Thermal burns are normally serious and at times, can be fatal. Thermal burns occur when heat is transferred via conduction from the heat source directly to a body part. Example: Heat is conducted from the heat source via the pan to your hand.

Radiation burns include sunburn, and is caused by high energy electromagnetic waves change to kinetic energy upon reaching our skin. Serious tissue damage can occur with radiation burns. Convection burns can also be serious. Convection occurs when heat moves through the air. Steam can cause convection burns as can a propane explosion and a chemical plant.

Burn survivors can be compensated for medical expenses, loss of earnings, incurred disability, and sometimes pain and suffering. With the burn cases, pain and suffering is sometimes so incredible that the compensation awarded is often high.
