No parent ever hopes to outlive their child, and for many parents, the idea of their child being killed is nightmarish. Sadly, however, parents are unable to control everything, and tragedies occur.
In a recent car accident in Houston, a 9-year-old boy was thrown from an SUV and died. His mother’s fiancé was driving the car, and the boy’s mother was in a car behind them. The young boy’s 4-year-old twin sisters were also in the SUV at the time of the crash. Reports say the car rolled several times, and all three children were ejected from the vehicle.
At this time, police are still unsure of what caused this tragic accident. They are considering the possibility that the driver was trying to avoid hitting children who were playing in the road and lost control of his car.
No matter what the cause, the outcome will be no less tragic. Unfortunately, serious car accidents like this one happen seemingly every day in Houston. It’s important to remember though, that they can be prevented.
Far too many accidents in our city are caused by negligent driving, whether it be drunk driving, texting and driving, or speeding. If Houston drivers take the time to slow down, follow traffic laws and wait to send a text or make a call, it could go a long way toward keeping our roads safe and accident-free. And while negligence is not always a factor in car accidents, when it is, injured victims or the families of those who have died have the right to file a civil lawsuit seeking compensation.
