Tragic car accident in Austin will likely result in an arrest

Some of our readers in the Houston area may have heard by now of the tragic accident that occurred on June 10 in Austin. A 37-year-old man, who was out that day for a morning jog, was hit by a truck, and later died at University Medical Center Brackenridge. He was jogging along a street with a 50 mph speed limit, but still a popular route for joggers in the area. If that was the extent of what happened in this fatal car accident it would be bad enough, but, to make matters worse, the driver who struck this man drove away from the scene without stopping to help.

The 37-year-old was married and a father of two. He was also deaf, and had been employed by the Texas School for the Deaf and had published several books. He had been offered an associate professor position just before his untimely death.

This man's wife has said she wants justice for what happened to her husband, and she might be getting it soon. The police found the truck near the accident scene, and reportedly tracked down the driver through the registration.

Beyond criminal charges, this driver may also face a civil suit from this man's family. A cause of action could be filed to receive compensation for pain and suffering and lost wages, which may be significant given that this man had been planning to take a new job at the time of his death.

Whatever compensation a civil suit could bring would help this man's family with their financial needs, but nothing will be able to replace the husband and father who was the unfortunate victim of this hit and run.
