Texas car accidents lead to fatalities during the holiday season

Car accidents during the holiday season have caused multiple fatalities in some Texas counties. The Department of Public Safety believes that the past week has become one of the deadliest ever on Montgomery County roads. Fatal car accidents have the potential to spur wrongful death suits against the negligent drivers who caused the fatalities. The families of the recent victims may consider their legal options in the wake of these tragic crashes.

In one accident, two days before Christmas, a speeding truck could not handle a curve on the road and crashed into a steel utility pole. The power lines fell onto the truck and a 19-year-old passenger in the truck was killed at the scene. The driver and another passenger in the truck were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Reports also indicate that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. In addition to being under the legal drinking age, the driver was leaving a house party. This means that the person responsible for serving the driver could also be held liable for the results of the crash, in addition to the driver himself.

Under the terms of Texas dram shop laws, the adult responsible for serving the minors alcohol can be held liable in civil court. Although the adult in question was not directly responsible for the accident, it was his or her negligence that played a major role in the fatal outcome of the crash.

Wrongful death suits are typically filed by the loved ones of the deceased who suffered some sort of monetary injury as a result of the death. The suits are filed against someone whose negligent behavior caused the death in question.

The Department of Public Safety as well as Montgomery County police have more officers on the roads to help prevent drunk driving accidents. Officers also encourage people who have been drinking to find alternative forms of transportation in order to prevent tragic accidents like this one.
