Houston bus driver cited in crash that sent 7 to hospital

Mass transit is an integral part of travel in any major city today. Getting a lot of people from point A to point Z, and any points in between, requires special logistics. There's also an imperative to do it all safely and that's an obligation that falls to the bus companies and the drivers who operate their vehicles.

Special training and licensing is typically required for a person to be hired on as a driver. Careful attention to bus maintenance is also mandated. Those provisions are intended to keep passengers and other drivers sharing the road safe. When they are overlooked, bus accidents often result and victims who have suffered injuries have a right to seek just compensation.

An accident in Houston earlier this month that sent seven people to the hospital raises just such questions about potential liability. It happened just after 1 p.m. According to authorities, a Metro bus running on Almeda Genoa collided with a car when the smaller vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The momentum of the bus then pushed the first car into a second vehicle that was in front of it. A fourth vehicle at the front of the line then was struck all those behind.

Three people in the first car that was struck by the bus and four bus passengers were hospitalized after the chain reaction crash. Their conditions weren't available at the time this is written.

A spokesperson for Metro says the bus's driver ended up being cited for failing to properly control the massive vehicle's speed.
