Third car may be involved in Texas fatal accident

It is sometimes the case when a car accident occurs that a vehicle that was not involved in the collision was responsible for the crash. Investigators are working to determine if a recent fatal accident in Texas was caused by another vehicle that left the scene, as one bystander reported. The crash killed a 26-year-old woman and injured two others over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The two-car collision occurred just before 1:30 in the afternoon. An eastbound vehicle driven by a 46-year-old man hit a pickup truck head-on. The 28-year-old driver of the pickup was hospitalized with unspecified injuries, but was reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle was critically injured, and his wife died at the scene.

Investigators interviewed a witness who stated that a third vehicle was driving eastbound on the shoulder just before the crash. That car allegedly pulled out in front of the vehicle in the eastbound lane, causing the driver to move into the westbound lane and hit the pickup. If police determine that this vehicle was involved and locate the driver, he or she could face a felony charge for failure to stop and render aid.

The outcome of this investigation may determine if any civil actions can be filed in a Texas court. If a third vehicle is determined to have caused the fatal accident and the driver is found, the surviving spouse of the decedent may be able to file a wrongful death claim against him or her. In addition, personal injury suits may also ensue. Any compensation awarded may help the survivors financially so they can focus on their recoveries.
