Weather as factor in deadly Texas crash being investigated

When a serious injury-causing or fatal accident happens, the first inclination for victims might be to just let the authorities handle the investigation. After all, that's what they're paid for, right?

Officials do have a responsibility to try to determine how an accident happened, but beyond the physics of things there may be questions about liability that may be more difficult to answer. That's why it's always good advice to work with an experienced attorney.

These issues may be on the minds of some in the Austin area after several deadly accidents in recent days.

Authorities say that one wreck around 9 p.m. last Sunday resulted in the death of one woman. Police say she was riding in an SUV that collided with a semitrailer truck, though they're uncertain as to why. At the time this is being written an investigation is underway.

All officials have said to this point is that weather conditions may have been a factor, but that they don't think alcohol played a part. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier in the weekend, on Friday night, another accident claimed the lives of two Austin-area high school students. Once again, at this point in time, police say the investigation continues.

According to officials, the vehicle carrying the two teens, aged 17 and 18, crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic. The reason isn't clear. The vehicle rolled over, leaving the two victims dead.

In addition to those three fatalities, officials report a fourth traffic-related death in the Austin area last week.

Officials note that a total of six people have died in the Austin region just since the start of 2014.
