2 people killed in fatal accident at SXSW Festival in Texas

People attending the South by Southwest Festival, also known as SXSW, in Texas recently were shocked to see a car careening into the crowd. Two people lost their lives in the resulting car crash. The man thought responsible faces a capital murder charge for his alleged role in the fatal accident.

According to police, they attempted to stop the man because they suspected the car he was driving had been listed as stolen. Instead of stopping, the man allegedly drove the wrong way down a one-way street. He then burst through a barricade that was in place for the SXSW.

The man reportedly continued to speed down the closed street, causing pedestrians and police officers on the scene to scatter from his path. He then collided in quick succession with a bicyclist and a moped. After running into a parked van the man left his car and proceeded to run away. Officers used a stun gun to stop his progress and then put him under arrest.

The men on the bicycle and the moped both died from the injuries they suffered in the collision. Eight people were taken to a Texas hospital for treatment. According to reports, two of them are in critical condition and one's condition remains serious. Thirteen people were taken to a different hospital and four to yet another facility. Most of them have gone home, but two were still hospitalized and listed in fair condition at the time of this report.

Festival organizers were in shock over this fatal accident. They say it is the only time in the event's 27 year history that anything like this has happened. For the people who were killed or seriously injured in the car crash, there is legal recourse available in the form of wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits. A firm understanding of the options available to them will be key to a successful resolution of this tragic event.
