Texas SUV accident claims life of 1, leaves 1 injured

Safe car trips require that drivers follow the rules of the road. Maintaining the proper right of way and proceeding through an intersection only when a traffic light indicates it is safe to do so are both ways that motorists can practice safe driving habits. Unfortunately, the driver in a recent SUV accident in Texas did neither. As a result, one man died, and a woman suffered injuries that required professional treatment.

According to witnesses, the man who died had stopped at a traffic light and was starting to move forward when his car was struck by a sport-utility vehicle. The SUV was apparently proceeding through the intersection against a red light. It rammed into the side of the decedent's car.

The collision resulted in the death of the other driver. His mother, who was a passenger in the car, suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to a Texas hospital for treatment. An update on her condition was not available at the time of this report.

The man thought responsible was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident, according to officials. He was arrested and taken to a Texas jail. He remained incarcerated on bail of $30,000.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal SUV accident. The family of the man who died retain the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver who allegedly ran the light and caused his death. The woman who was hurt could elect to file a personal injury suit as well. Any compensation received from a successful litigation could go a long way in helping the family to try to move forward from the tragedy.
