Nothing is more ordinary than seeing a school bus loaded with children on their way to another day of learning. Recently, though, the ordinary was shattered for some students when their journey ended in a bus accident. The crash involved a Texas school bus and a work vehicle.
Officials have not yet disclosed if their investigation had determined the exact cause of the accident. Some witnesses reported that a vehicle, headed in a southerly direction, failed to obey a traffic sign and slammed into the bus. The bus was transporting close to 20 students at the time. The wreck has resulted in several people being injured.
One of the most severely injured students was taken by helicopter to a facility equipped to handle trauma patients. Three other passengers and the operator were also injured and were transported to a medical facility. The driver of the vehicle that hit the bus was not using his safety restraint, and as a result, he was thrown from his truck. However, he has since been released from his doctor’s care. In addition, half a dozen passengers were taken by their family for medical care.
Texas authorities have not indicated whether any criminal charges will be filed following their investigation into this bus accident. While no one sustained life-threatening injuries, the lives of those hurt may never be the same. Some may possibly suffer ill-effects for months or years to come. Victims of these types of accidents do have recourse for seeking monetary relief from the tremendous burdens that come with medical expenses and lost wages. The injured passengers, along with the bus driver, may decide to seek that relief by filing a personal injury suit against the driver of the truck, who may ultimately be deemed responsible for their monetary damages as recognized by Texas personal injury laws.
