The worst fear of a parent is most often being notified that one’s child has been killed. Giving teenagers the freedom of independence can sometimes lead to irresponsible decisions that can result in serious consequences, such as operating a vehicle without making sure that all passengers are restrained properly. A Texas driver could possibly be named the liable person after an accident resulted in the death of a local teenager.
The accident has left the family of a 17-year-old girl with questions relating to the death of their daughter. The teenager was tragically killed when she fell out of the window of the SUV in which she was riding and was then run over by that same SUV. The driver and the other passengers then apparently left the scene of the accident.
According to others who may have been in the vehicle, the girl had apparently begun to argue with her boyfriend just before she was killed. It remains unclear if she was simply hanging out of the window and fell or if she was trying to get out of the vehicle. At least one of the other passengers in the SUV apparently tried to pull the girl back into the vehicle before she fell. Had the driver ensured that all passengers were properly restrained while the vehicle was in motion, the girl may not have had a chance to fall out of the vehicle.
The death of a loved one may not be something that one is prepared for. Although the Texas teenager’s death may have been accidental, an investigation may uncover possible evidence of negligence. If the family chooses to seek out compensation for their loss, it may benefit them to fully research any options available to them before making any final decisions on how to proceed against the liable person.
