Fatal accident blamed on driver that died, teen victim injured

Driving while taking specific medications can sometimes be risky and increase a person’s likelihood of becoming involved in a fatal accident. Many medications offer warnings or even specifically state that a person using the drug should not operate a vehicle or machinery. A recent fatal accident apparently caused by a person under the influence of medication resulted in the driver's death and seriously injured a young Texas woman.

The head-on collision occurred when a truck operated by a 50-year-old man passed over the dividing line of the road and into the opposite side of traffic. His truck collided with a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old woman traveling in the opposite direction. The teenager's family was in a vehicle behind her when the accident occurred, though they did not witness the impact. The truck driver lost his life as a result of the crash, and the young woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Records indicate that she is in stable condition, though the extent of her injuries was not further disclosed. It was reported that a witness observed the truck swerving dramatically between lanes moments before the crash. The man was under treatment for a head injury prior to the accident, and the initial evidence suggests he may have been using prescription medication for his injuries at the time of the crash. Sources also indicated that he had a prior DWI conviction.

Authorities have not received the autopsy information to determine if drug or alcohol use may have contributed to the cause of the fatal accident. Anyone that is injured due to the negligence of another party has legal rights and may have questions about where to begin the process of seeking financial relief. The estate of the deceased victim in this tragic crash may be sued in a Texas civil courtroom, along with any other party who maintained an ownership interest in the truck involved in the collision. Moreover, questions may exist over the medication prescribed to the man, including whether there were adequate cautions communicated to the driver regarding its use.
