Texas bicyclist killed in school bus accident

A school bus accident happened on a recent Wednesday afternoon. The tragic school bus accident left a 56-year-old man dead. The Texas bus driver has been criminally charged for hit-and-run.

According to reports, the bus accident happened when the driver of the school bus had just started her route. Reportedly, she crashed into a bicyclist who was making a turn at a green light. Sadly, the bicyclist died, and reports suggest that the driver committed a hit-and-run. Hours after the crash, she was arrested for failure to stop and render aid and was later released on a $30,000 bail.

No children were on board at the time of the crash. Authorities are not sure which school the bus was serving or where the bus was headed. The bus driver could be sentenced to 20 years in prison if convicted and could also be issued a $10,000 fine. No other information about this matter has been reported.

A fatal accident can be emotional for surviving family members, and understandably so. Not only does the Texas school bus driver have to answer to criminal charges, she may also have to answer to a civil lawsuit. The family members of the deceased bicyclist may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim against the school bus driver to cover funeral expenses and emotional distress. If a claim is filed and the case is successful, the family may be awarded damages, if evidence demonstrates that the school bus driver is the negligent party and her actions caused the death.
