When a motorist fails to notice a pedestrian in the roadway, tragedy is often the result. Texas authorities recently arrested a man who they believe hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene. Making the decision to avoid responsibility after being involved in a fatal accident often worsens an already bad situation.
The tragedy took place when a person walking near a highway intersection was hit by a pickup truck. Reports indicate that emergency responders were called to the scene of the early morning accident just before sunrise. Authorities found a person lying on the ground and pieces of a mirror that had hit the victim from a specific make and model pickup truck. Witnesses stated that a truck hit the pedestrian and then sped off without stopping to help.
Officials were able to locate the person they believed was driving the allegedly stolen pickup truck and contact him by telephone. The accused perpetrator refused to turn himself into police and claimed he was going to leave town to avoid consequences. Through an investigation, officials found the young man and took him into custody.
He was charged for his involvement in the fatal accident, in addition to other charges. The family members of the Texas pedestrian that lost his or her life unexpectedly may desire to pursue compensation for the tragic death. If their wrongful death claim is successful, they may be awarded damages for funeral and medical costs for which they have become responsible as a result of the driver’s reportedly negligent actions.
