Houston police say reckless driver caused fatal crash

The day before Christmas is often a time of bustling for many families across the nation. Last minute shopping, gift-wrapping, decorating and food preparations are common activities as people anticipate a day of celebration with loved ones. When a reckless driver takes to the road, however, the joyful hustle and bustle of the holiday season can quickly turn into a tragic event. Unfortunately, that appears to have been what happened in the Houston 600 block of E. Crosstimbers on Christmas Eve.

According to police, just after 6:00 a.m., a vehicle traveling at an excessive rate of speed barreled through a red light. The automobile rammed into a van, causing it to over-turn and land on its side. Passengers were ejected from the speeding car. One of those, a 47-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries and died the next day. Two people riding in the van were also injured and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police issued two counts against the 31-year-old driver of the car for intoxicated assault. He was arrested and now awaits his appearance before the 351st State District Court. The injuries of those in the van are reported to be non-life threatening.

When a reckless driver causes the death or injury of another, a personal injury or wrongful death claim may be filed against the party or parties believed responsible. Houston residents may seek counsel from a personal injury lawyer in order to understand the litigation process and discern the best options available. A successful claim can assist the injured parties as they attempt to meet the often significant costs incurred during recovery.
