Texas driver charged in fatal accident

Several passengers suffered multiple injuries when a Texas driver ran a red light and crashed into the passenger side of another car in late November. A 20-year-old woman died as a result of her injuries. Another passenger in her car was left with several broken bones. Criminal charges have now been pressed in the fatal accident. The 23-year-old male who ran the red light is currently being held on $150,000 bond for intoxicated manslaughter.

The driver was carrying several passengers who reportedly implored him to slow down. In an affidavit to police, one passenger stated that the man had been driving erratically and had told those in the vehicle that he was going to take them on a joy ride. The same passenger told police that he had witnessed the driver consuming whiskey and beer at a party earlier that evening. He also said that the driver ignored their pleas to stop the vehicle.

Responding officers stated that the driver did not cooperate when they arrived at the scene. In order to protect themselves from his attempts to spit blood and saliva at them, they placed a mask over his face. The man had to be sedated in order to transport him to the hospital. He later admitted to authorities that he had used marijuana and cocaine before driving his vehicle.

In Texas, family members who lose a loved one in a fatal accident may file a wrongful death claim in order to seek compensation for their loss. Those injured in a crash, due to the negligence of others, may seek assistance by filing personal injury claims. Compensation awarded can help relieve the burden of ongoing medical bills and costs incurred in the process of their recovery.
