Alleged drunk driver flees scene of Texas crash on foot

State law lists driving while intoxicated and thereby causing harm to another as an intoxication assault by motor vehicle. Texas officers have alleged that a drunk driver caused serious injury to another in a Friday evening crash. The driver is suspected to have hit not one, but two vehicles in different locations within moments of each other. As the scene of the second crash quickly became horrific, the man took off running, according to reports.

The first accident is said to have occurred when the alleged intoxicated driver crashed into the rear of another vehicle and drove away from the scene of the collision. Only a few moments had passed when the same driver is reported to have slammed into a second vehicle on another road. The impact pushed the front passenger door of the car that was hit over to the driver's side of the vehicle.

The crushed car was then propelled into a utility pole, knocking out neighborhood electricity. The vehicle was engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside. Reportedly, witnesses ran to the woman's aid and found her alive but unconscious. Responding rescue workers were able to revive and stabilize the woman before taking her to a nearby medical center for treatment of serious injuries.

Though the alleged drunk driver fled the scene on foot, he was later found and apprehended by police. He was jailed for allegedly being intoxicated in public and has since been formally charged with intoxication assault by motor vehicle. Texas law allows anyone injured through the negligent or reckless actions of another to file a personal injury suit in court. Because there are statutory limits concerning the amount of time a person has to commence a case, prompt legal consultation is a wise decision for those considering the possibility.
