A Texas family was struck with grief Wednesday when a tragic accident took the life of one of its members. An alleged drunk driver apparently caused the accident. Casual moments of exiting her car and getting ready to exercise became the last moments of the woman’s life. Her brother-in-law said that all who knew her admired for her kindness to others.
Police responded to the scene just after the accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. According to reports, the 34-year-old woman had just exited her parked car, stepped onto the sidewalk and was reaching into the rear seat of her vehicle. A car, which was said to be speeding, careened into the woman’s car. That vehicle was driven by an allegedly intoxicated 23-year-old man.
Upon impact, the victim was tossed into a nearby pole. After being transported to an area hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. Her grief-stricken family expressed their deep sorrow and lamented that the talented woman had just recently started her own business. The driver of the car that hit her is being held in jail on a $50,000 bond.
When an accident rooted in negligence, such as one caused by a drunk driver, takes a life in Texas, certain surviving family members have the right to file a lawsuit in a civil court. Successful claims under similar circumstances sometimes have awarded monetary compensation that could help grieving families to cover some of the costs incurred from an accident. Legal professionals with experience in personal injury and wrongful death claims are available to answer any questions an immediate family member of a decedent might have regarding the process of filing a legal claim.
