Texas residents call for changes due to high number of accidents

A convenience store clerk has publicly stated that she believes the legal speed limit on the road adjacent to the store where she is employed is far too high for maintaining safety. In late January, the young woman was on duty at the store when she and others rushed outside after hearing a loud crash. She immediately found a vehicle overturned in a ditch that had just been involved in a collision. Accidents like this one seem to be on the rise at the Texas intersection, and some say the dangerously high speed limit and lack of a traffic light are the problems.

The clerk assisted other responders in helping to get victims out of the crashed vehicles. Just one day earlier, a local firefighter was killed in the same location after being rear-ended by another vehicle as the car in which she was an occupant was waiting to make a left-hand turn. According to reports, there have been more than 25 accidents at the Grimes County intersection over the past four years.

Many of the crashes that occurred in the zone that residents consider highly dangerous have been captured on film by the nearby store's surveillance cameras. The speed limit at the intersection is 70 mph, which many say is dangerously high for the area in question. While some residents have said that a flashing traffic light or lower speed limit is sorely needed at the intersection, one man stated that he thinks drivers simply need to be more cautious.

While it is still unknown whether changes will be made to this particular Texas intersection, it is still possible for those who are suffering from injuries or losses as the result of accidents similar to the ones that took place in this intersection to find some sort of justice. Those who have been injured or who have suffered the untimely death of a family member in a collision may seek the assistance of a legal professional who has experience in filing personal injury and/or wrongful death claims. By filing one of these civil claims, one can pursue compensation for losses related to an accident.
