Texas Department of Public Safety officials reported that lanes headed in both directions were closed to traffic after a tragic accident occurred on Interstate 35. One person died in the accident and three others suffered injuries. The tractor trailer accident happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. on a recent Thursday.

The huge truck was headed north when it reportedly attempted to travel under an overpass for which it exceeded height limits. The driver allegedly came to a stop underneath a bridge and its cab was severely damaged. The overpass was said to be under construction at the time, and the truck apparently dislodged a concrete and steal beam which then caused a sudden collapse of the bridge.

Sadly, a pickup truck was passing under the bridge at the time of its collapse and the driver did not survive. Personal details about the deceased were not released to the public because the family had not yet been notified. Multiple other vehicles, including three semi trucks were damaged in the crash. Three people who survived the accident were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Area officials requested that other drivers seek alternate routes when a 15-mile backup ensued an hour after the bridge’s collapse.

There are legal professionals available in Texas who have experience in tractor trailer accident cases. Any person injured in a similar accident in the state may seek legal consultation if he or she wishes to pursue the possibility of filing a legal claim in a civil court. When injuries have been caused by the negligent or wrongful actions of another driver, the court can award monetary compensation to a victim as redress for damages suffered, including pain and suffering, lost wages, expenses for medical care and loss of potential earnings if a person’s injuries preclude him or her from returning to his or her workplace in the aftermath of an accident.
