Driver not licensed in recent Texas SUV accident

A recent crash occurred at the home of a Texas woman when a vehicle reportedly came through the wall of her apartment. The driver involved in the SUV accident was apparently not licensed to operate a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle allegedly claimed that he had applied the brakes but that the vehicle accelerated rather than stopped.

The accident was recently reported in the early evening hours at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. A 16-year-old boy is alleged to have been driving the sport utility vehicle at the time. The victim is said to have been relaxing on her couch when the SUV came crashing through her apartment wall, sending her into the air and across the room.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries suffered to her shoulder and back. Reports indicate that the infant crib of a 1-year-old child was also damaged in the crash. Fortunately, the baby was not in the crib at the time. Additional information provided stated that the mother of the teenager who was behind the wheel of the SUV arrived on scene and was placed in detention by police.

When a Texas SUV accident is caused by the negligence or wrongful actions of a driver who is a minor, negligence claims may also be appropriate against the parents, depending on the specific circumstances. Moreover, anyone with an ownership interest in the vehicle may be added as a defendant, though such a claim may not be successful if the evidence documents that the car was stolen. Taking a photographic and written account of the details of an accident is a prudent step when considering filing a personal injury claim. It is often helpful to list any property damages, physical injuries and/or photographs of the scene, when possible, in order to document one's case in preparation for a consultation with a personal injury attorney.
