Reckless driver kills 1, injures pregnant woman in Texas

A Texas police officer was recently traveling on the road when a car headed in the opposite direction blew past him. This led to a pursuit of the vehicle and ended in a tragic accident. The apparent reckless driver now faces criminal charges after one life was lost and another person was seriously injured.

The officer said that he activated his lights and siren as he attempted to make a U-turn in pursuit of the vehicle that had sped past him in the other direction on the road. The car was apparently traveling at such a high rate of speed that the officer soon lost sight of it. He came upon the vehicle again, moments later. Unfortunately, it appeared to have been involved in a horrific crash at an intersection.

It was reported that the driver of the car that allegedly caused the accident attempted to run away from the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by police and placed in handcuffs. Sadly, there were two occupants in the other vehicle that was T-boned at the intersection. The driver of that vehicle was an unidentified male who was killed upon impact. Also in the car was a woman who is believed to be approximately six months pregnant. She was flown to an area hospital for emergency care and has been listed in critical condition.

The alleged reckless driver was accused of operating a stolen vehicle and has been charged with murder. It has been noted that further charges are likely pending, including possession of a stolen vehicle and evading arrest. Texas law protects the rights of those injured by the negligence or wrongful actions of another motorist by allowing them to file a legal claim in a civil court in order to seek compensation for damages sustained. When loss of life has occurred, the immediate family members who survive the victim may pursue legal action against the party deemed to have been at fault on behalf of their deceased loved one. If the tortfeasor stole the vehicle involved in the crash, plaintiff's counsel may also help in determining whether the family's available insurance includes coverage for underinsured or uninsured claims.
