Texas fatal accident alcohol-related

A Texas police chief is calling for a crackdown on the way juries handle cases that involve convicted drunk drivers. The chief's strong assertions were prompted after a recent fatal accident that occurred on a recent Wednesday morning on Interstate 35. The tragic crash resulted in the loss of two lives and serious injuries for another.

A 23-year-old woman is said to have been out celebrating her birthday before the crash took place. Records indicate that, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the vehicle she was driving entered the southbound lanes of the Interstate heading in the wrong direction. The woman's vehicle reportedly smashed, head-on, into a vehicle operated by a 26-year-old man. Sadly, the young man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A 23-year-old female friend of the woman was also traveling in her vehicle. She was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was reported deceased the following day. The woman who appears to have caused the accident was likewise treated at the hospital for her injuries. Police say that they were unable to conduct a field sobriety test on the woman because of her physical condition following the accident but a blood test registered an alcohol content level of .17.

The police chief said that this fatal accident and others might have been prevented if juries would be more severe with convicted drunk drivers in court. He said that 2015 is slated to be the worst year for deadly accidents since 2007 and that those who cause DWI crashes need to be held accountable for their choices to drink and drive. Any person whose family member is killed by a drunk driver in Texas is able to consult an attorney for the purpose of considering a legal claim in order to seek compensation on behalf of their deceased loved one.
