A tragedy recently occurred in the westbound lane of a Texas roadway. Two vehicles were involved in the fatal accident. One person is now being held in a Midland detention center as a result of his alleged involvement in the crash.
It was approximately 11 p.m. on a recent Thursday night when the tragedy took place near Chukar Lane. A motorcycle that was carrying two riders was traveling in the westbound lane of traffic. A pickup truck appears to have turned east into the westbound lane, smashing into the bike and its riders.
Sadly, the 25-year-old motorcyclist who was driving the bike was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His passenger, a 16-year-old teenager, was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries and was listed in critical condition. The man behind the wheel of the pickup reportedly fled the scene. He was soon apprehended, however, and taken into police custody. Multiple charges have been filed against him, including failure to stop and render aid, intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and causing serious bodily injury through intoxicated assault with a vehicle.
The surviving family members who have lost a loved one in a fatal accident may seek financial relief under Texas law by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. An accident victim who survives his or her injuries is also able to pursue legal action against any motorist believed to have caused the accident through negligence. Such claims can lead to court-ordered compensation that can be used to help absorb some of the many costs and related financial losses incurred from a motor vehicle accident.
