A  garbage truck and a sport utility vehicle were reportedly involved in a collision on a recent morning in Texas. The truck accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on a recent Monday in Austin. Sadly, one life was lost, and several other individuals were reported with serious injuries in the aftermath of the crash.

According to police reports, a garbage truck was traveling in a westward direction on the road. An SUV is said to have exited a private driveway, colliding with the rear end of the trash vehicle. Upon impact, a passenger riding in the trash truck was ejected from the vehicle.

The person who was ejected from the truck was reportedly run over by the rear wheels of the vehicle. The SUV also ran over the truck passenger. That person was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other injured people were taken to an area hospital for treatment. One of those four is said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

None of the people involved in the fatal truck accident were publicly identified. Texas law allows anyone who has suffered injury under similar circumstances to file a personal injury claim in a civil court. In case of death, the immediate family members of the deceased may act on his or her behalf. Damages typically claimed in such cases include emotional pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of wages and funeral costs. Those who survive an accident are sometimes faced with a need for long-term care that can amount to undue financial stress which might be somewhat alleviated by compensation awarded in a successfully litigated case; surviving family members of a deceased victim might also take comfort in knowing that some of their costs can also be absorbed.
