Police suspect drunk driver to blame for Texas tragedy

Thousands of vehicles share the roads in Texas on a daily basis. It is logical to assume that the more vehicles present on a roadway, the more chances there are that accidents will occur. While some crashes happen even after drivers have done their best to avoid collisions, others would have been preventable if drivers had not acted in negligent or reckless manners. In a recent incident, a man who is believed to have been a drunk driver is being held responsible for a fatal accident.

At approximately 2 a.m. on a recent Friday morning, a motorcyclist was heading north on a rural Texas road. Traveling in the opposite direction, in the southbound lane, was another vehicle. That vehicle appears to have shifted across the center line, hitting the motorcycle.

Sadly, a 51-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman who were traveling together on the motorcycle both died at the scene of the collision. The 25-year-old driver of the car was taken to the hospital for treatment. The man reportedly told authorities that there had been another passenger in his vehicle when the crash occurred. However, police say that they have not located any such person.

The man who survived the car accident now faces two counts of intoxicated manslaughter. In Texas, this is a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Should the suspected drunk driver be convicted of charges related to the accident, his conviction can be used to support any wrongful death claims filed by the decedents' surviving family members.
