Texas roadways are busy thoroughfares with motor vehicles and pedestrians traveling to and from their destinations. Those who navigate the roads on foot have the right to expect nearby motorists to act with caution and safety behind the wheels of their vehicles so no harm befalls them while walking on sidewalks or crossing streets. When a driver is reckless, he or she can cause a fatal accident that leaves a trail of devastation and tragedy in its wake.

There have been far too many instances when immediate family members are shocked to learn their loved one has suffered an untimely death after being struck by a car while walking along the road. While there is no replacement for the loss of human life, a grieving family can take comfort in knowing that the law allows legal action to be taken against any party or parties deemed responsible for a family member’s death. In such cases, a family member typically acts on behalf of a deceased loved one in order to seek compensation for damages in civil court.

In one incident, a 50-year-old woman was walking across the street at approximately 9 p.m. on a recent Friday. Police say that a sports utility vehicle ran over her and that the driver failed to stop to render aid. Authorities claim that the vehicle was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when it struck the pedestrian. Sadly, the victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

Texas officers have not yet identified the motorist believed to have caused the tragic fatal accident. A phone number has been published along with a request that anyone with information regarding the collision call Houston police. In similar situations, when a reckless driver has caused an accident resulting in death to an innocent victim, the family of the decedent usually chooses to contact a personal injury lawyer if they are considering filing a wrongful death claim in court.
