Parents who rely on schools to transport their children to and from home, or for extra curricular activities, have the right to reasonably assume that their children will kept safe while traveling. Texas roads are typically bustling with traffic, and though a school bus driver may be doing his or her best to keep passengers safe, the negligence of other motorists can sometimes cause a bus accident to occur. This appears to be the case in a recent incident that sent 29 elementary school students and five adults to the hospital.
The Houston Independent School District bus was transporting adults and students during a field trip when the accident occurred. The crash reportedly took place very near to a petting zoo that local schools frequent for visits. A spokesperson from the petting farm, who is said to have witnessed the collision, said that a vehicle smashed into the back end of the school bus.
The students and adults were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Fortunately, no one was listed in serious condition. A later update stated that all were able to be released after being cared for at the hospital.
A bus accident can result in serious injuries to those aboard. It is understandable that a Texas parent or legal guardian whose child suffered injury while riding a school bus might have questions or concerns regarding possible liability or other legal issues. An experienced personal injury lawyer in the area would be able to address those concerns and offer guidance as to how best to proceed should one choose to file a legal claim in court.
