When a person travels in a vehicle driven by someone else, there is a certain amount of risk involved. However, passengers in motor vehicles have the right to reasonably assume that the person behind the wheel will act in accordance with traffic and safety standards and rules in Texas. If a driver is negligent or reckless, it can result in a fatal accident that leaves a trail of devastation and tragedy in its wake.
The sorrow associated with learning that a loved one has been killed in a car accident is fathomable only to those who have lived through it. In circumstances where another person’s negligence was the cause of an accident, the grief of family members who survive a victim may be intensified by anger, frustration and a desire to seek justice on behalf of their loved one. The law allows those in such circumstances to file wrongful death claims, seeking monetary judgment against those deemed responsible for a victim’s death.
A crash occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on a recent evening that involved a single vehicle with two occupants. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. The driver reportedly lost control of steering and crashed the vehicle into a nearby light pole. Sadly, the passenger did not survive the incident.
The driver was also injured but is expected to survive. Police say that the investigation remains ongoing, and it is not yet known whether alcohol was a determining factor in the crash. In a similar fatal accident in Texas, an immediate family member considering filing a wrongful death claim may have questions regarding the process that can usually be answered by an experienced personal injury attorney.
