Texas motorist charged as drunk driver, bond set at $1 million

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2015 | Car Accidents

Texas roadways become scenes of tragedy when accidents occur due to motorists’ negligent or reckless driving habits. When a drunk driver shares the road, the odds of an accident occurring are greatly increased. Collisions involving an intoxicated driver often result in serious injury or death to innocent victims.

The lives of families can be turned upside down when faced with the grief of a loved one’s unexpected death in a car accident. When those surviving a victim learn that the accident was caused by someone who chose to drive under the influence of alcohol, the situation sometimes evokes strong emotions of frustration and anger. Those in such circumstances may take comfort in knowing that they are able to seek justice on behalf of their deceased loved one by filing a legal claim in civil court.

A man in Texas was recently arraigned after having been deemed responsible for a four-vehicle crash that resulted in one victim’s death. He has been charged with intoxication assault by motor vehicle and intoxication manslaughter. He is currently being held in jail on a bond set at $1 million.

Police say that the alleged drunk driver fled the scene after the fatal crash occurred. He was then located nearby and, according to officers, presented signs of injury consistent with a motor vehicle crash and airbag deployment. Officers also say that the man wreaked of alcohol and spoke with slurred speech. Under similar circumstances, an immediate family member in Texas considering filing a wrongful death claim may want to retain legal assistance from an experienced personal injury lawyer in the area.
