A driver avoids reckless driver moments before friend is killed

Eastbound and westbound lanes of a Texas highway were shut down recently after a tragic collision. The fatal accident appears to have been caused by a reckless driver. Police say they had just been alerted that there was a motorist driving the wrong way on the road. Moments, later, a head-on crash occurred that left two vehicles in flames.

Apparently, the drivers of several other vehicles in the vicinity were able to veer out of the path of the oncoming wrong-way driver. One man who avoided the crash had reportedly been traveling in front of his friend's vehicle. The 21-year-old friend's car was hit head-on by the wrong-way driver, and both motorists became entrapped in their burning vehicles. It appears the friend had virtually no chance to respond to the oncoming vehicle.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the tragic accident. It is yet to be determined whether drugs or alcohol were leading factors in the crash. Several area fire departments responded to the scene, along with at least three police departments.

A reckless driver is a menace to all who share the road. When a family suffers the loss of a loved one because of a wrong-way driver, it is understandable that they would desire justice on behalf of their deceased family member. Texas law allows a wrongful death claim to be filed in a civil court in order to seek restitution on behalf of a fatal accident victim. When the person deemed responsible for a collision has also died, the claim may be filed against the decedent's estate.
