Tragic crash occurs as older couple crosses street in Texas

Many Texas road crossings are busy places comprised of both motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic. That fact does not diminish the grief and sorrow families experience when they lose loved ones in a crash. A recent incident involved two fatalities for which a 21-year-old driver seems to have been responsible.

The tragedy occurred in the Clear Lake area on a recent Wednesday. Apparently, a couple was on their way to a local Intermediate school for a special event that evening. The man, age 64, and his 66-year-old spouse were reportedly crossing the street together when a vehicle struck them both.

Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead on site. The man was transported to an area hospital for emergency care but later succumbed to his injuries. Police reported that the man behind the wheel of the car that hit the pedestrians remained at the scene of the crash to cooperate with authorities in their preliminary investigations.

Officials say it was not the first fatal crash to occur in that particular area. Several other similar tragedies have taken place in the same vicinity over the past few years. In Texas, when a family loses loved ones in a motor vehicle collision that was deemed to have been caused by the negligence of another party, they may seek restitution on behalf of the deceased by filing a legal claim in a civil court. While no amount of monetary recovery can replace the loss of human lives, court-awarded compensation in a successfully litigated claim can be used to help pay funeral expenses and offset other losses associated with a fatal accident.
