There are motor vehicle accidents in Texas every day. Thousands of travelers share roadways, some of whom fail to adhere to traffic laws and regulations. Driver negligence or recklessness behind the wheel often causes accidents that result in injuries to others.
A recent incident caused a freeway to be shut down during the morning business commute. Authorities who responded to the scene say that the collision seems to have been caused by drivers who were engaged in road racing at the time. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, the impact of which was so severe that the jaws of life had to be used by responders.
Rescue workers who were called to the scene had to use the apparatus to extricate two people trapped inside one of the vehicles after the crash. Reportedly, two other people tried to flee the scene on foot. Houston police officers are said to have quickly apprehended them, and both were taken into custody for questioning. The two persons freed from the severely crushed vehicle were each taken to an area hospital for care.
Accidents caused by driver recklessness are often grounds for legal action in Texas. Injured victims may file legal claims against the party or parties believed responsible in order to seek full recovery for the losses associated with their injuries. Such situations often require long-term medical care, time off work and extensive physical therapy during recovery. This can cause financial strain on a recovering victim which can be alleviated by court-awarded compensation in a successfully litigated claim.
