Rollover accident fatalities in the U.S.

Among the consequences that rollover accidents can have are fatalities. Today's post will focus on statistics on rollover crash passenger vehicle occupant deaths here in America.

The good news is that, over the past decade, the general trend in the nation has been a decrease in such deaths. Between 2006 and 2014, the only year in which passenger vehicle occupant fatalities from rollover crashes wasn't down from the previous year was 2012.

On the less encouraging side, rollover accidents remain a type of accident that results in thousands of fatalities, and such crashes are responsible for a very significant portion of the country's passenger vehicle occupant deaths. In 2014, rollover crashes had 6,863 passenger vehicle occupant fatalities associated with them. This makes up a third of all passenger vehicle occupant fatalities from that year.

The statistics indicate that rollover accidents are behind a particularly high amount of SUV and pickup truck deaths in the United States. In 2014, rollover crashes saw half of all SUV occupant deaths and just a little under half (44 percent) of all pickup truck occupant deaths. In comparison, less than a quarter (22 percent) of car occupant fatalities were from rollover crashes that year.

As this discussion illustrates, despite decreases in rollover fatalities, rollover deaths remain a significant problem in the U.S., particularly when it comes to pickup trucks and SUVs. Now, rollover accidents can come about in a diverse range of ways, and many different things can be causes of such crashes. Given how big of an influence the details of fatal rollover crashes can have on the rights and options of the families of victims, determining what specifically happened in a fatal rollover accident can be of critical importance. Help with determinations of accident cause are among the things families of individuals killed in rollovers may want to seek out a skilled rollover accident attorney for.
