What role does the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance fill?

| Nov 1, 2016 | Truck Accidents

In terms of trucking safety, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance works to promote safety and security within the commercial motor vehicle industry across North America. It is a nonprofit alliance with a number of federal and local government members. In Texas, the CVSA works in conjunction with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the Texas Department of Public Safety to help prevent commercial truck accidents.

The Alliance maintains an ongoing mission to “improve commercial motor vehicle safety and uniformity.” The CVSA fulfills this mission helping to guide and educate trucking safety enforcement personnel as well as policy makers. One of the most important roles the CVSA fills concerns the uniformity of North American standard inspections. The Alliance has identified a number of critical items upon which inspectors should focus. Some of these include:

— Vehicle frames

— Braking systems

— Fuel systems

— Securing cargo

— Coupling devices

— Exhaust systems

Commercial trucks and other vehicles are issued a special CVSA decal to show that the items examined passed the inspection process. If violations are discovered, no decal will be issued. As long as commercial vehicles display a CVSA decal no older than three months, they are generally exempt from a re-inspection.

Like other safety organizations, the CVSA strives to reduce truck accidents across the entirety of North America. It is yet one more safety-focused agency that helps lawmakers collect enough data to make important changes in the way the trucking industry is regulated.

Seeking answers for your trucking safety concerns is a good idea for all Houston citizens. Personal injury lawyers are often one of the most up-to-date resources for answering these questions and questions about truck accidents.
