Texas school bus accident tragically takes a life

In Texas, a 7-year-old girl was riding the bus on the way to school when the vehicle was involved in an accident. Tragically, the young girl was killed in the crash.

Five more students were also hurt, though their injuries were said to be non-life-threatening. A number of kids and the driver were all brought to the East Texas Medical Center.

The girl's identity was not released at first, but authorities have now revealed that her father is a Trinity County Sheriff's Deputy.

The reports claim that a 17-year-old male was driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck. He was behind the bus, which came to a stop to allow a child to get on. The 17-year-old did not stop in time and rammed into the back of the bus.

The vehicle was not a full-sized school bus, but a smaller school van, and the authorities did say they think all of the children had been secured properly. They are still investigating the crash.

The 17-year-old driver had three passengers in the truck with him. They were also brought to the East Texas Medical Center.

Pictures from the scene show that the back end of the school vehicle was heavily damaged, with the rear doors bent inward. The front of the pickup truck is also destroyed, the hood crumpled back toward the windshield and the engine mangled.

When a child dies in an auto accident, parents must know their legal options and how they can seek compensation. It does not erase the tragedy, but it can help with the medical bills, funeral costs, and the like.
