Rush hour can be dangerous: These tips can keep you safe

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2017 | Uncategorized

Driving in rush hour traffic is every bit as frustrating as it sounds. Even if you are used to it, there’s no denying the fact that it’s far from the most enjoyable part of your day.

Adding to your stress is the fact that a rush hour traffic accident could happen at any time. Even if you’re doing what you should, another driver could cause an accident that leads to a serious injury.

Since rush hour can be extremely dangerous, you’ll want to keep these safety tips in mind at all times:

  • Give yourself more time to reach your destination. For example, if it takes you an hour to commute to work, leave home an hour and a half before you need to arrive. This may sound like a waste of time, but it can go a long way in keeping you safe.
  • Leave more following space. There’s no point in driving too close to the vehicle in front of you, as this increases the chance of an accident.
  • Stay in your lane. It sounds like a great idea to jump from one lane to the next, but this isn’t going to save you that much time. If nothing else, this will increase the likelihood of a crash.

Along with the above, you should always keep close tabs on what’s going on around you. Remember this: It’s not always you who makes the mistake that leads to an accident. It’s possible that another driver could be the person who causes the crash.

In the event of a rush hour accident, move your vehicle to safety and call 911. You’ll want to receive immediate medical treatment, knowing that waiting around could cause things to get worse.

After the dust settles and you can turn your attention to the crash itself, focus on the cause. If you find that another party was responsible for the accident, you may be in position to seek compensation. It all comes down to learning more about your legal rights.
