Man dies in Houston rollover crash

Second only too high-speed, head-on collisions, vehicle rollover crashes are extremely deadly for those drivers and passengers inside the tumbling car or truck. When a vehicle is rolling over, its driver has lost all control of it and is truly at the mercy of fate for the outcome.

The design of SUVs and pickup trucks makes them inherently more vulnerable to these type of accidents. Some rollover crashes unfortunately end in fatalities, and that sad situation played out last week on a Houston road.

The fatal rollover wreck happened on Saturday, May 12 at approximately 9:30 a.m. The Houston Fire Department reported that their units were dispatched to 12801 Hiram Clarke Road to respond to a vehicle fatality.

The unidentified driver of a pickup truck had been headed east on West Airport Boulevard. According to reports, he was changing lanes but struck a curb. That impact caused the pickup to go into a spin, which led to it rolling over and striking the concrete and steel barriers erected on the highway.

At that point, the truck burst into flames with the driver still inside. Witnesses on the scene were able to get the driver out of his burning pickup truck, but the Houston Police Department reported that he died at the accident scene.

Some accidents cannot be prevented, but others can. Design flaws of certain vehicles can make them far more likely to rollover in collisions than other automobiles. If enough crashes are linked to these flaws, automakers may issue voluntary safety recalls to protect the public.

Were you or a loved one injured due to a vehicle rolling over in a collision? You may want to learn more about the recall process to verify if your SUV or pickup truck was subject to a recall.
