2 teens killed in Atascocita wreck, friend arrested

Two teens are dead, and their friend is jailed, following a recent horrific high-speed collision that split the car in two in Atascocita. Both victims were students at Atascocita High School.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) issued a press release stating that at approximately 12:25 a.m., on Wednesday, July 25, the three were headed south on Timber Forest when the driver lost control.

According to a relative of the driver, the three teenagers were leaving a quinceanera party for one of the girls, who were both 16. Witnesses allege that the driver was doing 70 or 80 mph in a 40-mph zone at the time of the fatal collision.

Police accuse the 17-year-old driver of being intoxicated when his Nissan Altima spun out of control, hit trees in the median and split into two sections. Despite all three teens wearing their seat belts, the backseat passenger died at the scene, while the girl in the front passenger seat passed away at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.

The driver suffered only minor injuries and was treated at Houston Northwest Medical Center. Upon his release, authorities booked him on double counts of intoxication manslaughter. According to later reports, he bonded out of jail.

There is no good outcome to a crash like this, which essentially ended three lives, as the driver's future is also irrevocably altered due to his negligence and poor decisions.

If you lost a loved one due to an intoxicated driver, regardless of the outcome of any criminal trial, you may choose also to pursue civil justice through the Harris County civil courts.
