Drunk driving demands serious consequences
It is honestly amazing that people continue to drive while intoxicated after the years of public service warnings and law enforcement efforts.
Needless to say, someone who drives while intoxicated engages in clearly irresponsible and dangerous behavior and should know better. As a result, in an addition to criminal penalties, a drunk driver should pay full compensation to his or her victims for medical bills, lost wages and the like.
Furthermore, under Texas law, the victims in this case may be able to pursue punitive damages from the driver over and above other compensation. Additionally, depending on the circumstances, the person or business who supplied the alcohol to the driver can also be held liable for this accident.
While one might think otherwise, drunk driving accidents are not always open-and-shut cases when it comes to obtaining compensation. Victims and their families will need to understand their legal options and be able to navigate through the appropriate steps.
